Woodworking Master Classes

| Having the ability to work with hand tools adds enormous
satisfaction to your woodworking experience. These masterclasses will
increase your understanding of hand tool techniques and timber. They are
an investment in yourself and will help you gain more confidence in your
own abilities through working with craftspeople who have many years of
experience in their field. You don't need to be an experienced woodworker
to benefit from our classes, you just need an interest and the desire
to give it a go. |

| • Sharpening with Peter
Young |
|
Saturday May 25th, 9:30am - 4:00pm
Cost: $180 including morning tea and lunch.
Being able to achieve a razor sharp edge on your tools forms the cornerstone
of woodworking. This course is designed to demystify sharpening and show
you how to achieve the very best results in sharpening your hand tools.
Bring in your own chisels (no matter what condition they are in) and Peter
will show you how to recondition and sharpen them. Peter will also cover
grinding, abrasives, using Japanese Waterstones and DMT Diamond Whetstones
for honing as well as tips on tuning handplanes, spokeshaves and scrapers.
Maximum of 6 students.

| • Cutting Mortise and
Tenons with Peter Geddes |

June 1st, 9:00am - 3:30pm
Cost: $180 including morning tea and lunch.
Mortise and tenons are one of the most crucial joints to be able to cut
well. They are one of the cornerstones of traditional joinery. Accuracy
is very important, but when you achieve a perfect joint, it's hugely rewarding.
Peter will show you how to mark out and cut mortise and tenons by hand.
All materials supplied. Maximum of 6 students.

| • Sharpening Carving
Chisels with Robert Howard |

Saturday 8th June, 9:30 – 3:30pm.
Cost: $180 including morning
tea and lunch
Robert
will take you through the process of sharpening and honing our carving
chisels to keep them in peak condition. He will also touch on some carving
techniques and exercises. All tools and materials will be provided but
feel free to bring your own chisels. Maximum of 6 students.

Day Parquetry Workshop with Peter Young |
Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th July, 9:30am - 4:00pm
Cost: $330 including morning tea and lunch.
In this two day workshop Peter will show you how to make a chessboard
from veneer, glue it to a substrate and then apply a solid wood edge to
complete the project. You will also have the opportunity to make Louis
cubes, stars and other diamond patterns. The workshop covers selecting,
cutting and trimming veneer, choice of substrates, glue-up techniques
and making solid wood mitres. All materials and equipment supplied. Maximum
of 6 students.

| • Furniture
Finishing with Carol Russell |
Saturday 27th July, 9:30am - 3:30pm
Cost: $160 including morning tea and lunch.
A piece of furniture can be beautifully crafted, but it can be let down
by poor finish preparation and application. In this course Carol will
show you how to prepare surfaces and apply a range of finishes including
shellac, buffing oils and wax. There is an emphasis on learning to make
and use a traditional 'rubber' or 'mouse' to achieve a lustrous deep finish
with shellac that will enhance your woodworking projects. All materials
and equipment supplied. Maximum of 6 students.

| • Two
Day Abstract Sculpture Workshop with Gary Field |
Saturday 3rd August and Sunday 4th August, 9:00am - 3:30pmpm
Cost: $330 including morning tea and lunch.
Through woodcarving, explore the art of sculpting abstract shapes inspired
by objects from nature. Over the two days you will learn how to design
a small sculpture, create a model and then carve it in wood using carving
chisels and a Dremel power carver. You’ll be amazed at what you come up
with. All materials and equipment are supplied for your very own sculpture.
Maximum of 6 students.

| Conditions
We require that you pay in full for your class at the time of booking.
A fee of 50% of the cost for the course will apply for cancellations within
two weeks before the course date. If you have six people and you would
like a class scheduled for your group, talk to our course coordinator.
Participants will be contacted one week prior to confirm the details.
As all classes include morning tea and lunch, please inform our course
coordinator if you have any specific dietary requirements.
