Basic Points on Jointers

Jointers (also referred to as 'surface planers' or 'buzzers') are used to provide a level finish along the length of a piece of timber.

Finding the correct size jointer generally depends on the size of the material you typically work with. 6" jointers are suitable for planing small boards and panels, while longer, wider pieces may require the longer table and cutting width of an 8" or 12" jointer.

A new variation on the traditional design of the jointer is the helical cutter head that's now available with our spiral cutterhead models. The advantage of a spiral cutterhead is its shearing contact with the workpiece rather than the chopping effect produced by a traditional cutterhead. This translates into a much smoother cut with less chipping and tearout as well as significantly quieter operation.
