These optional Ball tail and tall front knobs enhance the use of your block plane. The ball tail can be used on its own to provide a firmer grip when smoothing; however when it is used with the tall front knob, the combination allows you to bear down more heavily, letting the block plane perform like a small low angle smoothing plane.
