This is the best low angle block plane on the market, hands down. Its higher side wings are ideal for shooting and the multiple finger grips on each side provide optimal control. The combined blade advance and lateral adjustment is more sensitive and more accurate than any other adjustment mechanism. This is further maximised by two blade guide screws that prevent blade shifting.
The adjustable nosepiece does not extend beyond the body - this means that it cannot be driven back into a sharp blade by an unexpected knock.
With a 6" (150mm) x 2" (50mm) wide body made from ductile cast iron, it can take hard knocks without cracking. All of the machining is done to a high level of accuracy within Veritas’ factory.
The accurately milled sides and sole are surface-ground to a high degree of finish. It has the usual low bed angle (12 degrees in this case) and compact size of other low angle block planes. The A2 tool steel blade is 1/8" (3.2mm) thick and 1-5/8" (41mm) wide.

Optional ball tail and tall front knobs enhance the use of the block plane. The ball tail can be used on its own to provide a firmer grip when smoothing. However, when used with the tall front knob, the combination allows you to bear down more heavily, letting the block plane perform like a small low angle smoothing plane.
