Traditional bench dogs have a rectangular cross section and a side spring. The mortises for them are usually cut into a bench during construction. Because the mortises are angled slightly toward the bench vice, retrofitting rectangular dogs can be a complex process (we recommend round dogs for retrofits). These dogs have 5/8" x 3/4" shanks and are 6-3/4" long (16mm x 19mm x 171mm). Solid brass faces prevent damage to edged tools.
