Veritas now offer a standard block plane that is based on the same design as their low angle block plane. Preferred for general purpose work, the 20° bed angle plus the 25° bevel angle and the bevel up blade provide an effective cutting angle of 45°, the same angle found in most bench planes.
A low profile lever cap means the plane sits well in your hand, at only 1/8" (3.2mm) higher than the low angle plane. Mecanically, it shares many of the same features: a combined blade advance and lateral adjustment, blade guide screws, an adjustable nosepiece, a 6" x 2" (150mm x 50mm) footprint and a 1/8" thick x 1-5/8" wide (3.2mm x 41mm) A2 tool steel blade.
