The Wood Review Student Awards

Untitled Document

Last year, Carbatec sponsored Australian Wood Review’s Student Awards, where winners were announced in the most recent issue of their magazine (issue 90).

As a company, we are always looking for ways to support young woodworkers and the Australian Wood Review Student Awards showcased some truly beautiful works of art from young and upcoming woodworkers in Australia. Entries were free and open to students in year 11 or 12, where winners were picked across seven categories with one ‘Overall Best’.

The Overall Best winner for 2015 was Stuart Kelly, who showcased a skilfully handled piece – a Maloof Style Rocking Chair, made using American Walnut. The elegant, flowing piece of furniture was a sure winner for the judges and we have to agree, this piece is truely something special.

Best Design category went to Dylan Abreu for his creation of a Huon Pine Hall Table. Dylan received praise from the judges for his use of contrasting woods and fully resolved curves, pulling together a piece that just looked right.
