Cabinet scrapers are among the most useful tools in a workshop. However, most woodworkers have difficulty putting the optimum hook on a scraper. Since scrapers have four working edges, it is possible to make one into a highly versatile tool with each edge having a different cutting characteristic.
The problem is choosing the best burnishing angle and then holding the burnisher at that angle.
Veritas’® variable burnisher solves the problem and makes burnishing easy. The unit has a carbide rod in a brass hub held at an angle. A dial on the face of the body lets you set any angle from 0 to 15°. Rotate the hub to the chosen angle and then lock it in position with the thumbscrew. Because the burnisher body is slotted, you can burnish a scraper with complete confidence that the correct angle is being maintained. Instructions included and it comes with a scraper to practice on.
