Mortise chisels are primarily used in woodworking to cut mortises in mortise and tenon joinery. A mortise and tenon joint is a classic woodworking technique used to connect two pieces of wood; a mortise is the recess that has been cut into one piece and a tenon is the projection on the other piece of wood. Mortise chisels are designed to withstand the heaviest mallet blows to carve out a joint effortlessly. To preserve your chisel's lifespan, keeping the blade sharp is essential. If you're new to working with chisels or sharpening, we recommend using an honing guide that helps you consistently roll the chisel over your sharpening stone.
The Narex Mortise Chisel Blade is forged from high-quality Cr-V steel cryogenically processed and tempered to a minimum of 62HRc. Immediately after hardening, cryogenic treatment cools the steel down to an extremely low temperature, increasing the blade's hardness and durability. Your blade comes finely grounded and polished; the super thin sides are suitable for even the finest work. The beautiful hard ash wood handle has been sanded and hand-polished and features a solid stainless steel ferrule designed to withstand the heftiest blows.
