Harold and Saxon Toolworks are individually handcrafted in Australia, showcasing a range of Australian "Arid Zone" or "Outback" hardwoods.
Every workshop needs a strop, and if you need a strop, why not make it a very, very nice one? The Harold and Saxon Deluxe Strop features a solid and select piece of "Arid Zone" or "Outback" Australian hardwood, in this case, Myall - Acacia pendula, a very dense and heavy, hard-wearing species in various shades of brown. This is capped by a special Murray Grey Yearling Hide - a very fine variant of suede to give your tools the best edge possible. The hide is retained by a brass cap, and a laser-etched brass Harold and Saxon logo completes the strop.
Overall, it is 270mm in length, including the handle, with a 170 x 65mm leather stropping zone. At approximately 20mm thick and 370 or so grams, it has a heft that makes it a substantial bit of gear that is a pleasure to own and use.
Honing compound is recommended for best results, however a honing oil can be used if preferred.
NB* Equally dense and beautiful Yarran (Acacia homalophylla) is occasionally substituted when Myall is unavailable. A highly suitable substitute, these two timbers can be difficult to determine between to the untrained eye.
About the maker - Trent Powrie is the man behind Harold and Saxon Toolworks, one of only a handful of Australian tool makers whose legacy now spans more than a decade. Originally known for his Premium (and rare!) Bench Chisels, after a period of limited supply, Trent is manufacturing again and has expanded his offering to include a range of common workshop tool needs, including those offered through Carbatec in various mallets, strops and an awl. Key to these predominantly timber tools is his use of highly sought-after Australian "Arid Zone" hardwoods - equally as beautiful as they are perfectly suited to the task. Occasionally, Trent also releases some limited edition exotic timber variants.
