This machine represents our Premium Electronic Variable Speed Benchtop Midi-Lathe!
As the "Midi" name suggests, this machine is larger than our Mini EVS Lathe. Overall this unit is bulkier and heavier in build and offers an increased 355mm (14") swing over the bed along with 500mm (~20") between centres! That covers many craft projects from very decent size bowls and platters to chair legs, while pens and pepper mills are well covered. Table legs are covered via an optional bed extension, should that be your cup of tea.
This capacity is paired with our most serious and professional speed setup - a 1HP Induction Motor with Delta VFD (Invertor)! To fully appreciate this, you'd need to understand the differences between motor types and ways to control speed. Let us summarise by suggesting if it is torque you are after across the entire speed range - this is where you'll find it! VFD systems deliver powerful torque at all speeds and are an expensive option usually reserved for full-size lathes. So should you find yourself boring into a deep bowl, this lathe will keep pace with you. Of course, a Digital Readout is standard with this setup for easy referencing and changing the speed according to need. The EVS system delivers speeds of 50 to 3200RPM over just two belt changes.
Other standard features include Forward and Reverse capability, MT2 fittings including a supplied Live Centre and Drive Centre, a 102mm (4") Faceplate, a 200mm (8") upgraded smooth tool rest, tool shelves at both ends and a centre knock out bar are all included. Another upgrade from our smaller models is the inclusion of indexing capability with 24-position indexing.
We've utilised the most common spindle thread for benchtop lathes of 1" x 8TPI, so you're never lacking in ability to purchase accessories including chucks where this thread is well and truly serviced.
This machine is for those that are more serious about their woodturning, or their machinery, while still more compact than a floor model Lathe. This machine won't disappoint! Note that we do not consider this a "portable" machine as it is 54kg! It is Heavy Duty and requires a two-person lift.
Proudly brought to you from a name you can trust when it comes to woodworking - Carbatec.
Accessories we recommend you may want to pick up with your lathe; A set of tools is a must! Try our Cryogenic or TCT sets found
HERE. These represent very high quality for the price, lasting 2-3 times longer than regular M2 HSS - less sharpening! To expand what you can do with your lathe, you'll want to buy a four-jaw self-centring chuck at some point. We recommend the
Nova Pro-Tek Series.
Looking for something a little more basic? Try our
WL-B440H or

WL-1324P for an EVS option, but there are others to suit all needs and budgets too! We've got you covered at Carbatec.
