Cryogenic treatment of M2 HSS means this steel has been subjected to a complex immersion procedure at temperatures as low as minus 195C. Sounds fancy (and cold!) but what does this mean? This treatment actually changes the structure of the steel, producing an ultra-fine and hard martensitic structure, supported by fine carbides.
Erm, yes... And in plain terms? Additional wear resistance and edge holding capability of approximately 2 to 3 times that of regular M2 HSS !! Now that's an impressive edge!
All three of our Cryogenic Series Chisels Sets feature this treatment and are coupled with Stainless Steel Ferrules, along with solid and smooth European Hardwood handles. They are even supplied in very 'giftable' black storage boxes, as shown.
This 3 piece medium tool set is a fantastic next-tier kit covering basic spindle turning needs. We call it 'medium' as it has mid-sized blades and handles. They are equally suited to small/midi lathes as they are to full size lathes. It contains a 28mm Roughing Gouge, 19mm Flat Skew Chisel and a 9.5mm Spindle Gouge. The blades are laser etched and 130-150mm in length, while the handles are also laser etched and 220mm.
