Many woodworkers have turned to Japanese Chisels in their search for high quality, affordable tools. Japanese Woodworking chisels feature laminated steels capable of both achieving and retaining a superior edge to many other chisels. However as with many tools, they require final adjustment and setup before first use, for the best results.
This setup process requires the proper seating of the chisel's "hoop" on the handle, to allow "mushrooming" of the timber fibres over the edge of the hoop. This setup will provide the best longevity and protection for the chisel, even when executing heavy cuts with mallet blows.
