Pedestal drills excel at the common and often critical task of drilling at 90 degrees, but of course, are not limited to this. A common questions is should you get a benchtop unit, or a floor mounted pedestal? There are probably two primary considerations here; one being the increased workpiece capacity, though the majority of users will likely not make use of this so perhaps the more critical consideration is - is workbench space or floor space more readily available in your workshop? There are often other benefits to larger pedestal floor models in that they often have more power and larger swing capacity as well, but this is not always the case so check the specifications of the machines you are considering.
This is the Carbatec extra heavy duty pedestal drill press. With 2HP driving it, it is our most powerful drill press in the range. With 12 speeds available via a belt change over two pulleys, it is a simple task to select the appropriate speed for the material being drilled. An adjustable light is a standard feature on this model, allowing optimal lighting where you need it, for any task at hand.
The large cast iron (470mm x 420mm) tiltable table will allow you to attach clamps, jigs and accessories to make drilling operations easier and safer. The table has a large winding handle, that easily winds the table to the best position for the current job. Magnetic jigs, fixtures and fences are ideal for this table due to its large size and ample room to position them.
The large and heavy cast iron base (450mm x 580mm) is appropriately sized for a machine this size providing a substantial footing and heft to deliver stability. The overall footprint of the machine is 620mm wide x 820mm deep allowing it to fit in most workshop situations.
The use of NVR (no volt release) switching is standard, with the switch being positioned above the chuck and within easy reach during working operations. The vertical travel levers are located just to the right of the switch, winding the chuck through the impressive 120mm of chuck travel. The keyed chuck has a 3mm to 16mm capacity, with the ability to drill a variety of materials using the speed range of 150 rpm to 2700 rpm.
