Narex Cabinet Rasp: Hand-Set Teeth for Fast Shaping and a Cleaner Surface

Shaping a curved chair arm or easing a table edge with a machine-made rasp can be slow, and it often leaves deep, uniform scratches that take ages to sand out. The Narex Cabinet Rasp is different. Each tooth is set by hand, so the rasp cuts faster and leaves a noticeably cleaner surface. You remove timber quickly and spend less time on clean-up.

Choose the coarseness that suits your work and shape with precision and control.

Key Features

  • Precision hand-set teeth: Every tooth is individually raised by hand rather than stamped by machine. The result is a sharper, higher-quality cutting surface that removes large amounts of timber quickly.
  • Faster cutting, better finish: Hand-set rasps outperform machine-set rasps on both speed and surface quality. You get the stock removal you need for shaping with a smoother result straight off the tool.
  • Slightly irregular tooth spacing: On a machine-set rasp, the teeth sit in neat rows that follow each other and plough grooves into your work. The irregular spacing of hand-set teeth means each tooth cuts a slightly different path, so you avoid tracking marks and get a more even surface.
  • Carbon steel blade, 49 HRc: HRc is a scale that measures how hard steel is. The heat-treated carbon steel blade has a hardness of 49 HRc, giving the hand-set teeth a durable, dependable cutting edge.
  • Ergonomic hornbeam wood handle: Hornbeam is a dense, tough timber. The shaped handle is stained and waxed, so it sits comfortably in your hand and gives you excellent control on every stroke.
  • Three coarseness options: Choose cut 10, cut 30 or cut 60 to match the job, from heavy shaping to refining your form before sanding.
  • Made by Narex: Narex has decades of experience making quality woodworking hand tools, and this rasp is built to last.

What Does "Roughness of Cut" Mean?

The roughness of cut number tells you how closely packed the teeth are on the blade:

  • A lower number means fewer, larger teeth. The rasp bites harder and removes timber faster, ideal for roughing out shapes.
  • A higher number means more, smaller teeth. The rasp removes less with each stroke but leaves a finer surface, ideal for refining your form.

All three options are coarse-cut cabinet rasps built for efficient shaping. The cut number simply lets you fine-tune the balance between speed and finish.

Ideal For

  • Furniture makers shaping chair legs, arms, crest rails and sculpted joints.
  • Cabinetmakers easing edges, fairing curves and refining shaped components.
  • Carvers roughing out forms before moving to finer tools.
  • Spoon carvers and green woodworkers shaping handles and outer curves.
  • Woodworkers who want a professional-quality rasp that leaves less to sand.

A quick tip: clamp your workpiece firmly so you can guide the rasp with both hands. Cut on the push stroke with steady, even pressure, then lift slightly on the way back to protect the teeth. Work diagonally across the grain and change direction as you go to keep the surface even. Clean the teeth regularly with a file card or stiff brush so the rasp keeps cutting at its best. If you own more than one cut, start with the coarser rasp to shape and finish with the finer one before you reach for sandpaper.

Add the Narex Cabinet Rasp to your cart today for faster shaping, cleaner surfaces and less time sanding, and craft with confidence.
