Narex PREMIUM Rectangular Cabinet Scraper: A Glass-Smooth Finish Without Torn Grain or Clouds of Dust
Sanding has its limits. It's slow on hard timbers, it clogs quickly on old finishes and it can blur the crisp edges you've worked hard to create. On figured or interlocked grain, your plane may tear the surface no matter how sharp the blade is. The Narex PREMIUM Rectangular Cabinet Scraper solves these problems. It takes fine, controlled shavings that remove plane marks, smooth flat surfaces and strip old coatings, leaving a clean finish that's ready for oil, wax or varnish.
Add this simple, hard-working tool to your bench and spend less time sanding and more time finishing.
Key Features
- Hardened carbon steel blade: Hardened carbon steel takes and holds a crisp burr, so your scraper keeps producing fine shavings for longer between sharpenings. It's also tough enough to stand up to years of regular workshop use.
- Polished surface: The polished faces give you a smooth, true starting point when you prepare the edge. A clean face helps you form a consistent burr, and that means a cleaner cut on your timber.
- Smooths flat surfaces without tearing the grain: The burr shaves the fibres rather than lifting them. You can smooth tricky timbers such as figured maple, curly jarrah or interlocked grain where a plane might tear out.
- Removes planing marks: Clean up ridges, small tracks and minor tear-out left by your plane. A few light passes leave a level, even surface ready for finishing.
- Strips old coatings and varnishes: Scrape away old finishes without clogging sheets of sandpaper or relying on heat. It's ideal when you're restoring furniture and want to keep detail crisp.
- 0.7mm thickness: This mid-range thickness gives you a useful balance. The plate is flexible enough to bow slightly under your thumbs for a controlled cut, yet stiff enough for heavier work such as stripping finishes.
- Practical 150 x 65mm rectangle: The rectangular shape gives you four long, straight edges to work with. When one edge dulls, you can switch to another and keep going before you need to sharpen.
- Made by Narex: Narex has decades of experience making quality woodworking hand tools, and this scraper is built to last.

A quick tip: first prepare the edge. File the long edges square and hone them on a fine stone, then lay the scraper flat and rub each face with a burnisher to straighten any old burr. Next, hold the burnisher at a slight angle to the edge, about 5 to 10 degrees, and draw it along firmly two or three times to turn the hook. To scrape, hold the plate in both hands and press your thumbs into the centre to bow it slightly. Tilt it away from you at about 60 degrees and push. When you see fine shavings, you've got it right. Dust instead of shavings means it's time to turn the burr again. The scraper can get warm with heavy use, so a thumb guard or piece of tape can make longer sessions more comfortable.
