Narex Conical Burnisher (D 10 x 145mm): Precise Burr Control on Every Scraper Edge, From Straight to Tight Curves

A scraper with a poor burr makes dust instead of shavings. On curved and profile scrapers, the problem is often your burnisher. A straight rod can't always reach tight curves evenly, so parts of the edge end up with a heavy hook, a weak hook or none at all. The Narex Conical Burnisher solves this with a tapered shape and a 30° bevelled tip. You can reshape the edge to the right angle and turn a crisp, consistent burr along straight edges and tight curves.

Add this conical burnisher to your bench and get finer shavings and smoother surfaces from every scraper you own.

Key Features

  • Tapered conical shape: The rod narrows along its length, so it gives you a range of diameters on one tool. Use the wider section on straight and gentle edges, and the slimmer end to reach tighter curves.
  • 30° bevel at the tip: The bevelled tip helps you reshape the scraper's edge accurately to the right angle. A well-shaped edge produces a burr that cuts cleanly and removes material efficiently.
  • Precise edge reshaping: The burnisher doesn't grind steel away like a file or stone. It presses and rolls the scraper's edge over into a fine hook, called a burr, which does the cutting. The more controlled the burr, the cleaner your shavings and finish.
  • Hardened tool steel (61 HRc): HRc is a scale that measures how hard steel is. At 61 HRc, this burnisher is harder than a typical cabinet scraper. It shapes the scraper's edge without getting scratched or dented, so it stays smooth and effective for years.
  • Made for cabinet scraper edges: Use it to prepare a new edge or refresh a worn one. When your scraper starts making dust, a few firm strokes can restore the burr and get you back to work quickly.
  • A natural partner for profile scrapers: The taper suits the varied curves of hollowed and gooseneck scrapers. It also works on rectangular scrapers, so one tool covers your whole scraper kit.
  • How it differs from a cylindrical burnisher: A cylindrical burnisher has the same diameter along its length, which gives even pressure on long, straight edges. The conical burnisher adds a tapered profile and a bevelled tip for more precise angle control and better reach into curves. Many woodworkers keep both on the bench.
  • Built to last: Made by Narex, which has decades of experience making quality woodworking hand tools. With simple care, it will serve you for a lifetime.

Ideal For

  • Furniture makers who use cabinet scrapers to finish table tops, panels and drawer fronts.
  • Woodworkers sharpening hollowed, gooseneck and other profile scrapers.
  • Chairmakers and carvers keeping curved scrapers cutting cleanly on shaped work.
  • Restorers who scrape old finishes and need to refresh the burr often.
  • Woodworkers who own a cylindrical burnisher and want more control on curved edges.

A quick tip: start with a properly prepared scraper. File the edge square and hone it on a fine stone. Lay the scraper flat and run the burnisher firmly along each face to draw a little steel towards the edge. Then clamp the scraper upright in a vice. Tilt the burnisher about 5 to 10 degrees from square and draw it along the edge two or three times with steady pressure. On curved scrapers, use the section of the taper that best matches each curve, with the slimmer end for tight bends. A light touch gives a cleaner burr than heavy force. Add a drop of oil to help the rod glide. Wipe it clean and dry after use, because any rust or scratch on the rod can transfer to your scraper's edge.

Add the Narex Conical Burnisher to your cart today for precise burrs, cleaner shavings and smoother finishes on every scraper, and craft with confidence.
