Narex Marking Knife with Cut-outs: Crisp, Accurate Scribe Lines You Can Trust
A pencil line has width, and that width can turn a tight joint into a loose one. Even a fine pencil can wander along the grain, and once you start cutting it's hard to know which side of the line you're meant to be on. The Narex Marking Knife with Cut-outs scribes a narrow, clearly defined line that becomes the exact guide for your saw or chisel. Its cut-out blade keeps the line in plain view, so you can mark precisely and cut with confidence.
Choose your blade thickness and start laying out joints with greater accuracy.
Key Features
- Steel blade hardened to 60 HRc: HRc is a scale that measures how hard steel is, and 60 HRc is well suited to holding a sharp edge. The heat-treated blade stays keen through long layout sessions, so your lines stay crisp.
- Cut-out blade design: The cut-outs give you better control over the blade and a clear view of the line as you mark. You can see exactly where the edge meets the timber, which helps you keep your layout on target.
- Narrow, clearly defined scribe line: The knife severs the surface fibres rather than sitting on top of them like a pencil mark. You get one precise reference line with no guesswork about its width.
- Cuts across and along the grain: Mark clean shoulder lines across the grain and accurate cheek lines along it with the same tool.
- A groove deep enough to anchor a chisel: The scribed line forms a small groove. Drop your chisel edge into it and the chisel registers right on the line, which helps you pare to a crisp, accurate shoulder.
- Exotic rosewood handle: The ergonomic rosewood handle gives you a stable grip and good tactile feedback, so you can feel the blade working against your square or straightedge.
- Three blade thicknesses: Choose 0.75mm, 1.2mm or 2.5mm. A thinner blade suits fine, delicate layout work such as dovetails. A thicker blade feels stiffer in the hand and suits firmer, heavier marking.
- Made by Narex: Narex has decades of experience making quality woodworking hand tools, and this marking knife is built to last.

A quick tip: hold your square or straightedge firmly in place. Keep the flat face of the blade against it and the bevel facing the waste side. Make your first pass with light pressure so the knife follows the guide and doesn't track along the grain. Then go over the line two or three more times to deepen the groove. Once your line is scribed, set your chisel edge in the groove and pare a small V-notch on the waste side. This gives your saw or chisel a clean starting point right on the line.
Add the Narex Marking Knife with Cut-outs to your cart today. Choose your blade thickness for sharper layout lines and tighter-fitting joints, and craft with confidence.
