Slice Clean Angles and Corners with a Swiss-Made D Series Skew Chisel

When a full-size carving tool feels too long or bulky in the hand, the Pfeil D Series Skew Chisel gives you the same quality in a more manageable size. Each blade is forged from the same Chrome Vanadium steel as Pfeil's standard tools, but with a shorter 85mm blade and a smaller handle, bringing the overall length to 200mm.

The angled skew edge slices cleanly into corners and tight spots, letting you pare end grain and finish details where a straight chisel struggles to reach. That medium sizing makes the D Series a sensible choice for younger carvers, or anyone working with smaller hands who wants closer command of the cut. The handle carries flat edges, so the chisel stays put on the bench instead of rolling away while you work. It arrives sharpened and ready for use, so you can head straight to the bench.

Key Features

  • Chrome Vanadium Steel Blade: The same quality steel as Pfeil's standard tools, ground for a keen edge that holds up to regular carving.
  • Angled Skew Profile: The slanted cutting edge reaches into corners and tight spots, slicing end grain and fine detail with control.
  • Shorter 85mm Blade: A compact blade with a 200mm overall length, giving you closer, more controlled handling.
  • Smaller Handle: Sized for younger carvers and those with smaller hands, so the tool sits comfortably and works with ease.
  • Flat-Edged Handle: Keeps the chisel from rolling off the bench, ready when you reach for it.
  • Range of Widths: Available across different widths so you can match the tool to your task.
  • Sharpened and Ready to Use: Arrives honed straight from the factory, so you can head to the bench and start carving straight away.

Understanding the Pfeil Codes

Pfeil's numbering system tells you exactly what each chisel does, once you know how to read it:

  • D: Marks a smaller series tool, such as D8.
  • S: Indicates a skew chisel, such as 1S.
  • A: Placed after the first number, this shows a bent blade, such as 8A.
  • First number: The depth of the gouge, running from 1 (flat) through to 15 (quite deep).
  • Last number: The width of the chisel in millimetres.

Main Applications

  • Paring into corners and tight angles where a straight chisel cannot reach.
  • Slicing end grain cleanly for crisp, controlled finishing cuts.
  • Cleaning up detail and refining edges across relief and figure work.
  • Working with a lighter, more manageable tool that suits smaller hands and younger carvers.
  • Building a versatile carving kit with chisels bought individually, or as a set where stated.

Give your angled and corner work the precision it deserves. Add the Pfeil D Series Skew Chisel to your kit and carve with confidence from the very first cut.
