Veritas 406mm Shooting Sander: Sand Stock Perfectly Square, Every Single Time

Get edges that are true, square and ready to join without the risk of splintering or chipping. The Veritas 406mm Shooting Sander gives you a 28.6mm (2-1/8") wide running surface, machined at a right angle to its face, so you can sand stock square and to size with real accuracy. Jointing your stock by sanding rather than planing is a gentler approach, which makes all the difference on thin stock, tricky grain, or lacquered and painted mouldings where a plane can tear out or leave marks.

The clever touches make it a pleasure to use. The angled wooden knob helps you apply equal force to both the sole and the face, and it repositions anywhere along the length of the sander, locking in place with a simple twist. Pair it with any shop-made shooting board sized for the Veritas shooting plane, and the 6.35mm (1/4") lip along the bottom of the face keeps the sander from widening your shooting board track. At 406mm long, it maintains contact over a larger area, making quick, efficient work of long edges.

Key Features

  • Square running surface: The 28.6mm (2-1/8") wide sole is machined at a right angle to the face, so you sand stock accurately square and to size.
  • Gentler than planing: Sanding reduces the risk of splintering and chipping on thin stock, difficult grain, and lacquered or painted mouldings.
  • Angled wooden knob: Helps you apply equal force to the sole and face for even, controlled sanding.
  • Repositionable grip: Slide the knob to any point along the length and lock it with a simple twist to suit your work.
  • Track-friendly lip: A 6.35mm (1/4") lip along the bottom of the face stops the sander widening your shooting board track.
  • Durable body: Extruded aluminium with a black anodised finish, built to hold up in the workshop.
  • Efficient long-edge coverage: At 406mm, it keeps contact over a larger area for faster, more consistent results.
